Took 3 guests and myself on a safari today. Drove up to The Pilanesberg which is about 2 hrs drive away and drove around this massive reserve where we were lucky to experience some different wildlife and the scenery was terrific! Lots of mountains and endless plains with bush, lakes and creeks. Saw various antilopes, an ostrich, hog wildboars, a giraffe, numerous zebras, a big rhino which reminded me of Nick back home, wilderbeast, a fisheagle, monkeys and best of all by a lake we saw some huge hippos lying on the bank taking in the sun and on another bank 3 large crocodilles...Nice! None of the big cats unfortunately.. but they are also more active during nighttime and are hard to spot in the grass during the day. But Im sure I will come around them at some point while Im here in Africa...
Im sorry to say but dont expect any photos in National Geographic or Animal Planet style as they are hard to take and further more the animals were at quite a distance plus well camouflaged and therefor hard to catch on the cameras...
On the way back we made a short visit to Sun City / The Lost City which is a place in the middle of nowhere that suddently shoots up like Las Vegas in Nevada. Full of flash hotels, a palace, a big waterworld and golfcourses etc... Not my cup of tea but was good fun to experience though.
Had a quick shower when I got back and then straight to the kitchen to help out our chef to serve the dinner in The Manor House where we were 12 people dining incl. our guests...
Great day!
