After a nice day visiting a few waterfalls with a picnic I took the two guests yesterday on a drive through Blyde River Canyon which was a very spectacular route. The scenery and landscape was changing all the time as we drove. We made some stops on the way at some viewpoints and more waterfalls. In the afternoon after a 7 hr trip we made it to Idube Private Game lodge where Holger had been so kind to book me in for a night. The beautifull lodge is a unique place situated in one of the best safari areas ( Sabie Sands ) South Africa has to offer. Among others there is a great chance of seeing the Big 5 ( Lion, Leopard, Buffalo, Elefant and Rhino ). There are no fence around the lodge area so we were told never to walk alone.. so in the evening one of the rangers walked you to and from your house. They had often had the big cats passing by... Anyway we went for an afternoon-drive with two experienced trackers and guides. It was fascinating to see them in action looking at the footprints etc. We came really close to a herd of elephants and two rhinos. Beautifull...!
After the sun had gone down we drove through the bush using a spotlight mainly looking for leopard. It was deadexiting despite not seeing one...
The day ended in the lodge around a campfire where we had a delicious dinner and listened to stories from the rangers..
Best day so far here in South Africa..
